Arles (13)

Incontournable !
ArlesArles is a town of worldwide renown for its rich antique and Romanesque heritage. In 1981, some of the monuments were listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO, including the roman Amphitheatre (the arena), the Antique Theatre, the Cryptoportiques, the thermal baths of Constantin, the remains of the roman circus, the Saint Trophyme cloister and portal and the Alyscamps, which are the starting point to one of the three ways leading to Santiago de Compostella.

Arles inspired many painters, in particular Van Gogh and Picasso, to whom the town dedicated some museums.
Arles also welcomes many cultural manifestations, like the Rencontres dÂ’Arles, the international festival of photography, created in 1969.

Arles is also a great place for nature lovers. Its location between the Alpilles mountain range, the Camargue and the Crau areas will let you see very different landscapes.
- The Alpilles mountain range is a land of vine and olive trees.
- The Camargue is one of the most beautiful natural site in Europe. Its fauna and flora are protected in the Regional Natural Park of Camargue.
- The Crau is a rocky, semi desertic plateau, with an extraordinary ornithological reserve.

At last, we canÂ’t forget to mention the bullfighting traditions: numerous corrida (bullfight), novillada, and feria (bullfight festival) are organised throughout the year.
